CONSERVATION of EASTERN BLUEBIRDS and NATIVE CAVITY NESTERS in SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA USING MONITERED NESTBOXES. TAKE A WALK ON MY TRAIL and say along with me "WOO-HOO FOR BLUE!"
Hello--so good to see you here! Bluebirding is extremely rewarding (as I found out) I had no idea the joys of bluebirds until I saw my first nestbox with both parents feeding their little babies early Spring 2005. A few days later, much to my horror, those cute little bluebird nestlings didn't have a chance as I looked out my window at the nestbox and saw a black rat snake dangling out of the nestbox's entry hole with lumps in its body one afternoon; subsequently the second brood died on hatching day from excessive heat in a poorly ventilated nestbox. After that, I was bound and determined to get a proper nestbox installed for Spring 2006 that would bring success to these beautiful birds. Once I witnessed maiden flights (called fledging) of healthy baby bluebbirds, I became hooked on this worthy cause. This site brings you closer to my own bluebird trail. Come take a walk around here and see what's happening!
